Brookings, South Dakota, hosts the 25th oldest marathon in the US, run every year since 1970.
On June 21, 1970, Brookings hosted its first marathon, appropriately named the Longest Day Marathon. In 2004, the course was revised and the race name changed to the Brookings Marathon. This May marks the 52nd running of the Brookings Marathon. As it has since 2004, the course includes historic neighborhoods, beautiful parks, bike paths, and tree-lined streets, all supported by hundreds of wonderful volunteers. Opportunities abound for family and friends to cheer along the way. Online registration is currently available for the Marathon, Half Marathon and Marathon Relay!
